Vladimir Ashkenazy is best known in the States for his phenomenal piano playing -- though the Dutch have a different take on him. For over twenty-five years, this Russian-born virtuoso has brought incendiary performances of orchestral classics to the Netherlands -- as a conductor. Tonight, this extraordinary musician is on the conductor's podium with the world-class Netherlands Radio Philharmonic and an all-Sibelius program.

About the Host

Brian Newhouse is the senior producer and host of SymphonyCast, a weekly program showcasing the world's great orchestras. He holds degrees in voice and English, and won a Peabody Award for the seven-part radio documentary The Mississippi: River of Song. Simon and Schuster published his memoir, A Crossing, in 1998.
