Description:
Music is not an object, and you can’t touch it and say “This is what it is.” Music is what happens between the people in a room, and what happens during a concert can be a mystery. How do sound waves come out of an instrument, travel through the air, and make the tiniest cells deep in your ear vibrate in just such a way that it touches your heart? The fabulous Norwegian cellist, Truls Mørk, embraces this mystery, and it may be why he sells out halls wherever he plays. We won’t try to explain how it works. We’ll only enjoy the fact that it does as Mr. Mørk plays the most touching of the great cello concertos, by Edward Elgar.
